WHO WE ARE

BACKGROUND

Defold Mine (Pvt) Ltd is a member of the Mutapa Investment Fund under its mining portfolio. The company was created to spearhead private sector investment in the mining industry on behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe.

Aligned with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1)—which identifies mining as a key driver of economic growth and central to achieving the national vision of “Towards a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle-Income Society by 2030”—Defold Mine is strategically positioned to play a significant role in the country’s socio-economic transformation.

Defold Mine (Pvt) Ltd is mandated to advance the following strategic objectives:

To enter commercially viable mining joint ventures that fully exploit Zimbabwe’s natural resources whilst participating in the development of the mining industry and declaring a dividend to the Government.

To enter into strategic partnerships for the development of strategic minerals (including processing of refractory gold ores and rare earths minerals development)

To act as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the sustainable development of the mining sector through identification of investment opportunities.

To implement mining best practice principles to minimize environmental degradation over mining concessions.

Through these initiatives, Defold Mine is poised to make a meaningful contribution to the development of Zimbabwe’s mining sector and the attainment of national economic goals.

Our Objectives

Sustainable Development: We act as a special purpose vehicle focused on the sustainable development of Zimbabwe’s mining sector.
Strategic Joint Ventures: We enter into commercially viable joint ventures to maximize the extraction and development of the country’s natural resources, while contributing to the growth of the mining industry and ensuring returns to the government.
Strategic Partnerships: We establish strategic partnerships for the exploration and development of key minerals critical to Zimbabwe’s economic growth.
Support for Small to Medium Scale Mining: We promote small to medium scale mining through innovative strategies, including the development of gemstones and chrome mining in the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) sector.
Gold Sector Development: We focus on the development of a sustainable small-scale gold mining sector that minimizes gold leakages and harnesses the full potential of Zimbabwe’s gold industry through the establishment of Gold Processing Centers.
Formalization of Artisanal Miners: We facilitate the formalization of artisanal and small-scale miners by assisting with title acquisition and forging partnerships with potential miners, ensuring their integration into the formal economy.
